Grace Hahn, 101, of rural Sumner, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at the Eldora Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Eldora, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 18, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church in Frederika with Rev. Dale Halverson officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg. Friends may call for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests friends make memorial donations to St. John Lutheran Church, Frederika. Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli is assisting Grace’s family.
Grace Olive, daughter of Henry and Edith Nichols Braun, was born August 2, 1913, in Chickasaw County, Iowa. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1930. On November 19, 1941, she was united in marriage with Alfred Hahn at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She and her husband farmed between Frederika and Tripoli for many years with Grace taking on the many duties of homemaker and farm wife. Following her husband’s death in July of 1988, Grace continued to make her home on the farm until entering Eldora Nursing & Rehab in September. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Frederika. She especially enjoyed quilting, genealogy, raising African violets, and bird watching.
Grace is survived by two sons, Duane (Evelyn) Hahn of Eldora and Roger (Cindy) Hahn of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Leonard, Orie Louis, Bill, and Hank; and six sisters, Lizzie, Eva, Nora, Edith, Nettie, and Bid.
